Maabarot Products engages in the development, manufacturung and marketing of foods and nutritional supplements for people and animals. The company was established in 1963 and today employs 450 people.
The company conducts its business in a number of sites in Israel: Maabarot's premises in Emek Hefer, the Ta'am Teva Altmansite in Or Yehuda, Analit in Granot Industrial area, and Adama's premises in Mevo Modi'im.
The company also has business in Izmir, Turkey, run by the company Global Biopet.
Maabarot Products subsidiaries are Materna Laboratories, Biopet, Ta'am Teva Altman, Analit, Adama, Global Biopet and Halavit.
Maabarot Products Ltd. started out in 1963 when Kibbutz Maabarot established a production plant for milk substitutes for calves in Emek Hefer in central Israel. In time, the business became a partnership with Teva, called Asia Maabarot.
In the 1970's another category, pet food, was established, and within a few years the company's Bonzo brand became a generic name for dry dog food in Israel.
In the 1980's the company built a modern plant based on the spray-drying technology for the production of infant milk substitutes and powders for the food industry.
The company's Materna brand conquered the Israeli market within just a few years, influencing and shaping consumer behavior in the category.
In November 1993 the company's shares were listed for trading on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange.
In 1999 the company underwent a reorganization process, and its businesses were separated into wholly-held subsidiaries of the parent company, Maabarot Products Ltd.
In October 2004 Maabarot Products took its first steps in the nutritional supplement, vitamin and mineral market (VMS) when it acquired the Altman company.
Several months later, in June 2005, the move was completed with the acquisition of the controlling interest in the company Ta'am Teva and the formation of the Ta'am Teva Altman partnership, in which Maabarot Products holds 68% of ownership.
In January 2006 the subsidiary Biopet, manufacturer and marketer of pet food, acquired 51% of the distribution company which distributed its products in Turkey, and established the company Global Biopet.
In September 2006 Maabarot Products entered the organic food market following the acquisition of 51% of Adama Organic Food Products.
Two new acquisitions were completed in June 2008: BioPet Ltd. acquired 100% of Schif & Ribovsky Manufacturing, Import and Marketing for Pets Ltd. While, Maabarot Products Ltd. acquired 60% of Anlit Ltd. which manufactures and markets dietary supplements for children, including Yomi, the top best-selling brand for jelly bears in Israel’s pharmacy chains. Anlit’s CEO is Gil Ben Yosef.
The sale of 51% of Materna to Osem-Nestle was completed in December 2009. A long-term partnership was subsequently launched under the name of Materna Industries to lead the infant nutrition category in Israel.
